Portugal’s online gambling market ended 2024 with outstanding results. According to the latest report from local regulator SRIJ, GGR amounted to €323 million – an increase of 42.1% compared to Q4 2023.
Key figures:
🔵 Online casinos generated revenue of €184.6m (+19.5% YoY).
Slot machines were the most popular (80.2%), followed by banca francesa (5.4%), roulette (5.3%) and blackjack (4.8%).
🔵 Sports betting: revenue reached €138.3 million (+90% YoY). Soccer (75%) remains the leader among bets, followed by tennis (10.5%) and basketball (10.2%).

Total betting volume for the quarter reached a record €5.1 billion (+21.1% year-on-year).

Demographics:
🔵 78.4% of players are under 45 years old, the most active group is 25-34 years old (33.9%)
🔵 New players are predominantly young: 33.1% are aged 18-24 years old
🔵 The majority of players live in Lisbon (21.5%) and Porto (21.2%)
🔵 94.9% of players have Portuguese nationality, with Brazilian nationals predominating among foreigners (50.1%)
Responsible play:
Self-exclusion rates have risen: 16.2k new self-exclusions in the quarter (+36% year-over-year), totaling 292.4k self-exclusions.
Fight against illegal gambling:
The local regulator blocked 112 sites, sent 41 termination notices and referred 5 cases to the prosecutor’s office.
